Substance Use Disorders in Child Welfare:

What Works for Children and Families

Improving Outcomes for Children and Families
Impacted by Substance Use Disorders

Congressional Briefing – June 6, 2013

Today in the United States, more than 8 million children live with a parent who is alcohol-dependent or who needs treatment for a substance use disorder.

The needs are particularly great for families involved in the child welfare system.  While the majority of these families struggle with a substance use disorder, only a fraction get the appropriate services to help them overcome their addictions and keep their families together.

But there is good news.
